Facebook's acquisitions have had a successful couple of months.
Whatsapp, which Facebook bought at the start of 2014, recently hit the 900 million users mark.
The milestone was announced by Whatsapp co-founder's Jan Koum on his Facebook page.
Facebook's
founder Mark Zuckerberg was among the first to congratulate him and
even posted a photo of Mr Koum as he posted the status update.
By April this year, this had risen to 800 million and within the past four months the service has added an extra 100 million.
'Twitter
will go to great lengths to take care of each individual by providing
generous exit packages and help finding a new job.'
The company employs around 4,100 people in more than 35
offices around the world, according to its website.
Twitter shares fell 3.1 per cent to $29.90 in extended
trading on Friday.
The company is working to rekindle growth after its latest
quarterly results in July revealed the slowest rise in monthly
average users since it went public in 2013 - a performance that Mr Dorsey at the time called 'unacceptable.'
This is in stark contrast to the rising numbers of people using Facebook's Instagram and Whatsapp apps.
Last month, Instagram announced it now has more than 400 million users who post around 80 million images every day.
The
app has now leapfrogged Twitter, which had 316 million users at the
last count, and makes the photo-sharing service more popular than
Pinterest and Snapchat.
By comparison, Facebook recently achieved one billion users in a single day.
Elsewhere, Whatsapp, which Facebook bought at the start of 2014, hit the 900 million users mark earlier this year.

its engineering organisation to make it more efficient.

It is likely that many of the people impacted by the layoffs

network has made a couple of updates recently including the
introduction of Moments in the US, and removing the 140-character limit
on its Direct Messages service.
It
has also introduced a number of security updates to clamp down on
bullying and trolling on the site, including new reporting tools and
verification steps for users.
